September 2012

August came and went by so fast. This was a great summer for the band, not only musically speaking but as a discovery period as a unit. It is one thing to do gigs locally, do the gigs – pack up - go home. It’s another to do road trips, i.e.: hours together on the road, sharing rooms, practically living together and really getting to know the band mates. So here we are, beginning of September and we survived, and we continue to move ahead with our next album.

Summer 2012 was great – I can’t help but repeat that. We did the Edmundston Blues Fest in New Brunswick, the Maximum Blues Fest in Carleton-sur-Mer, Ottawa for TV & Radio interviews, Montreal’s Divers/Cité and Toronto Blues Society’s Talent Search. Then to top it all off, we were bestowed the honor of Artist of the Month at the House of Jazz – a place that makes us feel at home and treats everyone like royalty.

This summer, we met interesting people, made great connections, shared our music with new audiences, discovered other bands, and made new friends. Good times! But what strikes me most and what really warms my heart is the before and after the gig situation.

Believe it or not, I am not much of a talker when it comes to the off-stage workings of the band. But I must say that during the road trips, I loved listening to the “guy-talks”; the nonsensical or deep thought types of conversation that are unrelated to music, the uncontrolled laughter and giggles due to extreme tiredness and in some cases drunkenness. These are memories that remain un-photographed but forever burned in my memory. This is the stuff that makes the band. This is the stuff that makes the ‘unit’ solid.

Having lived with the guys this summer reinforced this synergy that we have. No need to talk, no need to justify...it just fits and it feels right. Gut instinct confirmed, on stage and in the studio, these guys are beside me working and walking toward the same goals.

And so, with that in mind, our gigging schedule lightens up a bit as we go into the studio to record our next album. Do come by the House of Jazz or any gigs, when you can or, join our Facebook group. Either way, it would be really nice to see you.
