Calpurnia
By Audrey Dwyer
Directed by Jon Lachlan Stewart
Calpurnia is a satirical comedy about race, appropriation, classism and Mammy Culture – set in a Canadian context.  It’s the story of Julie, a twenty-something Afro-Canadian screenwriter, who attempts to complete a retelling of To Kill a Mockingbird from the standpoint of Calpurnia, the Finch family maid.  Her complicated relationship with her Filipina housekeeper Precy and her tenuous friendship with her best friend Christine hang in the balance as she examines Mammy Culture from the inside out.
