June 2015 - Home is where the heart is

June 24, 2015: Just finished an amazing week of shows and recording sessions.  The highlight was the West Island Blues Festival where we did a 1.5 hour energized set of tunes from all 3 albums. The sun was shining, the weather was perfect for a family friendly event. Photos and videos can be found on our Facebook page, go visit Carolyn Fe Blues Collective, it's all there. I am so grateful for all the opportunities that have come and are coming my way. It is a difficult road standing alone and doing it all by myself...writing lyrics, booking, managing. But now and then there are those that recognize the effort I've put into the band and open new doors for me to breathe so that I can go back into the trenches and get the job done. Someone called me a "Rock Star".  I thanked them but humbly corrected them.  I am not a rock star. I just want to make my dreams come true, one extremely focused step at a time. Some may follow, some way fall by the wayside but I remain focused. Thank you, universe for hearing my prayers.

June 16, 2015:  We're in the thick of things alright. I just came back from an AMAZING gig at Toronto's Hugh's Room. This time around it wasn't a cover or a tribute gig, it was all about the band.  My stage husbands backed up two beautiful women of the Blues that I've had the honor of sharing the stage with quite a few times: Cheryl Lescom and Ginger St. James.  Then we closed the night with a full hour of our tunes. We were in heaven! The crowd at Hugh's Room really appreciated our offering. This gig would have been the 3rd time we played in Toronto as a band, but this is what I call the "breakthrough" gig.  This is the one where folks really got to know us, our music and song, and they confirmed that they loved what we do.
We met new friends and reconnected with old friends. It was a great time and I have to say, it felt like home. A friend who has seen our show in Montreal and came to see us in Toronto confirmed that Toronto and the US is where we belong. Does this mean my days in Montreal are counted?  It could just well be. I hold on to the thought that I am a Montrealer at heart but Toronto is definitely winning more space. I am meeting folks who understand and show appreciation of my work. The crowd at Hugh's Room was not only listening to the music but to the actual lyrics as well! After the show, folks were asking me about some of the stuff I was singing about. THAT - for me as a songwriter- is the ultimate compliment.  Thank you, Toronto! I've left my slippers at your door.
